Week 6 in Sevilla

 Entry 7

    The Week

I had classes as usual and tutoring with my kids. We went to the park for a bit this week and made sandmen at the playground but had to head back when it started to sprinkle a bit. Before the rain started, a neighbor and her daughter brought their dog over and I got to pet the dog so that was awesome. Everyone from the area keeps telling me how out of the norm the rain is and that it barely rains here, yet I keep getting rained on, so it doesn't feel very true no matter how many times they say it is unusual. Although the city's architecture does support their claim that they aren't used to rain because Sevilla is definitely not built for rain and gigantic puddles form all over the sidewalks where water has nowhere to drain.

On Wednesday, I had a little class trip in the evening to downtown Sevilla. Our professor wanted to walk around and point out the various historical sites and where the boundaries of Roman Sevilla would have been. It was an interesting tour, but it started raining 5 minutes into it, so the rest of the hour and a half weren't ideal. One of my classmates didn't have a jacket so I gave her mine because I had a hoodie on as well but then the rain started, and pretty quickly I was just walking around in a wet hoodie. My professor had an umbrella that he stole from the university's lost and found but it had a hole in the top which kept cracking me up, he's an odd man, I love his class. Not super surprisingly given the weather the previous night, I woke up sick on Thursday.

    The Weekend

This is going to be super short this week because of the aforementioned sickness. I didn't feel terrible on Friday, so I stuck to plans I made with Macy, and we went thrifting and got lunch. There is a specific street for thrifting in Sevilla with at least 7 thrift shops and several antique stores as well that we wandered around. We split a pizza for lunch, and I ventured outside of my usual order of pepperoni--partly because I want to try new things but mostly because they didn't have pepperoni--and we got something with chicken, onions, and other stuff that I forgot but tasted really good. After that I went home and had a zoom meeting with a professor/director of the graduate program I am pursuing at NAU and that was the entirety of my human interaction for the weekend because I barely left my bed Saturday and Sunday. I had hoped to go to a soccer game on Sunday and instead slept for most of the day. A bit of a disappointing weekend but I would rather be sick this weekend than one where I plan to be traveling.

this is the only picture I have from this week and it's the bathroom
sign from the pizza parlor which I thought was funny

    Food

The pizza, of course, 10/10 but that's pretty much it. My host mom gave me a lot of soups and pasta because she hoped the heat would help my throat and I ate a lot of my candy stash because I didn't leave my bed. Devastated to report, I did not have ice cream this week.
